Abilene Christian University – Facility AuditAbilene, TX
In September 2008, the Abilene Christian University ordered a pool audit for their 1968 indoor six lane 25-yard pool. The pool is well used by a variety of user groups, including education, athletics, and summer camps. Intramural programs also use the pool, most notably for a very popular sport at ACU: waterball.
The Abilene Christian University swimming pool audit itemized problems that were not compliant with current industry design standards and/or the administrative code requirements, as well as equipment that was beyond its useful life. The report also included an Opinion of Probable Construction Cost to repair the pool.
In 2012, Counsilman-Hunsaker renovated the existing indoor competition pool including new mechanical systems, as well as an entirely new indoor leisure pool of approximately 3,000 sq. ft. that includes a current channel, six 25-yard fitness lap lanes, water basketball, water volleyball, and underwater seating with therapy jets. The total project includes new locker rooms and support spaces as well as additional indoor recreation elements such as an indoor track, gym space, climbing wall, weights, cardio, and office space.
