In 1997, the City of Coppell, Texas, retained the team of Brinkley Sargent Architects and Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop a business plan for a new recreation center. This project was developed for the growing City of Coppell to meet the citizen interest for more recreation facilities within their city.  Services included developing estimated cost versus revenue projections as well as the traditional architectural role of design. The facility contains both family aquatic and traditional recreation center components in one facility.  It was sited adjacent to a 100-acre park near the Town Center.

Aquatic Design & Engineering

Based on information from the report, the city chose to build a new indoor/outdoor recreation center named Coppell Recreation Center. The facility opened in 2000 complete with an indoor gymnasium, fitness space, multi-purpose room, indoor leisure pool, and outdoor leisure and competition pool. In 2009, the city made a decision to expand the aquatics amenities and make some improvements to the facility. Completed in 2012, renovations included the addition of a second outdoor waterslide, replacement of the old interactive play structure with new themed play structure in the outdoor leisure pool, replacement of spray/play features in the outdoor pools, replacement of the indoor waterslide converting it to a deck runout, pool finish replacement, in addition to general repair work.
