Concerned for the city’s existing nine aquatic facilities’ ability to continue to serve the needs of the community, the Evansville Aquatics Task Force worked with outside experts: Dan Hayden (Process Facilitator), L&W Consulting (Updated Pool Audit), and Kimley-Horn / Counsilman-Hunsaker (Community-Wide Pool System Master Plan) to provide information and assistance in offering capital costs, operational costs, and developing strategies in order to meet the needs of the community now and in the future.
The general conclusion from the public suggested that the city should consider consolidating its resources and develop fewer but higher quality pools. Being responsive to the consensus position of youth and adults who participated in the demand assessment process for a higher quality pool system, the Aquatics Task Force recommended a Four Facility Master Plan with the help of the outside experts. On May 14, 2007, City Council approved the recommendations of the Aquatics Task Force.
