Sigrid and Harry Spath Aquatic Center

Fort Bragg, CA

Through local drives and generous private donations by Harry and Sigrid Spath and the Starr Foundation, the Fort Bragg community raised the necessary funds to successfully build their new community center. The C.V. Starr Community Center/Sigrid and Harry Spath Aquatic Facility offers a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art recreation, fitness and aquatic complex. Residents and visitors to the Mendocino Coast enjoy the all-weather, year-round, family-friendly, affordable recreation center.

Counsilman-Hunsaker was selected to design the natatorium that includes two bodies of water, including an eight lane 25-yard competition pool and a separate leisure pool. The leisure pool provides play opportunities with participatory play features, tot slide, two spray features, a waterslide, and a 175 ft. current channel for resistance walking and recreation fun. In addition, the leisure pool also provides two 25-yard fitness lap lanes for warm-up, warm-down support of the competitive amenity. The “beach entry” to the pool and the electric lift greatly improve access to the pool for persons with limited mobility.

Aquatic features include:

  • 4,700 sq. ft. Competition pool
  • 4,300 sq. ft. Leisure pool
  • 165 sq. ft. Whirlpool spa

The community center also offers a childcare facility, gymnasium, offices, physical therapy fitness rooms, and community meeting and activity rooms.
