Gettysburg CollegeGettysburg, PA
To strengthen the Gettysburg College leadership position among the nation’s top liberal arts schools, the Gettysburg College Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to build the new Athletics Recreation & Fitness Facility.
Counsilman-Hunsaker and Cannon Design teamed to design the state-of-the-art indoor sports and fitness facility, which offers 55,000 sq. ft. of innovative opportunity for recreational and competitive swimming, as well as dry-side fitness amenities.
The natatorium includes an eight lane Stretch 25 competition pool and a gallery of spectator seating. A bulkhead allows flexibility for simultaneous activities in the pool. A Hydro-Worx therapy pool provides swim-in-place jets and an underwater treadmill.
Aquatic Amenities include:
8,500 sq. ft. Stretch 25 Competition Pool
- 8 or 10 competition lanes
- Five lane warm-up area
- Moveable bulkhead
- 350 spectator seats
The Center will use at least 27.8 percent less energy and half as much water as a comparable non-LEED facility. The design’s focus on sustainability reduces the college’s carbon footprint by nearly 2.45 million pounds annually. All energy for the building’s heating and cooling will be from renewable sources that the college purchases. More than 90 percent of the construction waste was recycled. The swimming pool filtration system will save more than three million gallons of water annually.
