The Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo (JCC) commissioned Counsilman – Hunsaker to provide swimming pool concepts for the future expansion of the Benderson Family Building.  Offering both indoor and outdoor aquatics, the JCC has experienced overcrowding and the need to expand has become inevitable. The goal of the study was to assist in defining a course of action regarding the future of the pools.

The team identified several creative and practical conceptual design and programmatic options that addresses the demands for a year-round recreation pool, camp utilization for the outdoor pool, and swim team utilization for the indoor pool. Proposed options included an indoor teaching pool, an outdoor member’s only pool including play features and current channel, an indoor six lane lap pool, and an outdoor aquatic center located next to the existing outdoor pool.  All options are aimed to significantly improve and expand useable program space and provide upgraded and modernized amenities for the community.
