Mt. Vernon, City ofMt. Vernon, IL
The existing 40-year-old Mt. Vernon City Swimming Pool had reached physical and functional obsolescence. The consultant team of Counsilman-Hunsaker and FGM Architects developed an aquatic feasibility study, which offered three concepts for the city’s budget.
The concepts evaluated the pros and cons of three options: an outdoor pool option, an indoor pool option, as well as an indoor therapy pool with an outdoor recreation pool. By having a comparison of options, the city was able to focus on self-sustaining pools with appropriate features that would meet the needs of the community in the most fiscally sustainable manner.

Pleased with the results from the study, in March 2012, the city decided to move forward with the design of a new outdoor aquatic facility that will feature an outdoor 17,000 sq. ft. aquatic center featuring a six lane 25-meter pool, lazy river, and sprayground.
