Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) continues to grow its physical footprint and extend its influence in the wellness arena with the opening of the NEOMED Education and Wellness (NEW) Center. The 177,000 sq. ft. facility has quickly become the nucleus of the campus and its student life and has created interaction with Rootstown Township and the surrounding area. The NEW Center is a model of integration of wellness, healthcare, community and educational opportunities.

The Sequoia Wellness Center encompasses 24,000 of the 177,000 sq. ft. facility. This medically-based wellness center features lap and warm-water pools, state-of-the-art fitness equipment and wellness experts who can create a customized fitness plan for students, faculty and township residents.

The amazing openness and luminosity of the main atrium space was accomplished by the use of custom-designed steel trusses that span more than 86 feet, allowing the space to be filled with natural light. At the center of the lobby is a 10 ft. by 19 ft. rain curtain water feature with a custom water supply trough recessed into the ceiling and color changing LED lights in the basin.

Aquatic amenities include:

  • Three 25-yard lap lanes

  • Various spray features

975 sq. ft. Therapy Pool

  • Stair entry
  • Hydrotherapy bench
