Constructed in 1984, the 137,000 sq. ft. Albright Health Center became obsolete in its ability to serve the Northern Kentucky University campus community. The university opted to renovate and expand the facility with an additional 110,000 sq. ft. featuring a new indoor recreational pool, performance gymnasium, weight-fitness space, group exercise rooms, bouldering wall, offices and an outdoor turf field complex with soccer and softball fields. The remaining 56,000 square foot of the existing building received minor HVAC upgrades. The expansion also features an update to the existing gymnasium, track, racquetball courts, and weight-fitness space. Aquatic amenities include:

7,200 sq. ft. Leisure Pool

  • Eight 25-yard lap lanes
  • 1-meter diving board
  • 3-meter diving board
  • Climbing wall
  • Ramped entry
  • Three stair entries
  • Water volleyball
  • Water basketball

350 sq. ft. Spa

  • Stair entry
  • Hydrotherapy bench seating

The new energy-efficient Albright Health Center received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Sustainable features include high efficiency water fixtures reducing the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater. Potable water consumption by irrigation was also reduced by 50% with the use of native species and efficient irrigation methods.
