2017
Norwegian Cruise Line contracted Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct ten American Red Cross Lifeguarding training classes in international waters from April 2017 through December 2017 onboard five of the largest vessels in their fleet, including a ship that completed construction in April 2017 intended for the Chinese market. Additionally, Counsilman-Hunsaker was contracted to develop Standard Operating Procedures for lifeguards for two Norwegian Cruise Line vessels in different ship classes. After review of the Standard Operating Procedures, Norwegian Cruise Line decided to begin staffing lifeguards across their entire fleet and to implement fleet-wide adoption of the Standard Operating Procedures.
2018
Norwegian Cruise Line continues to retain Counsilman-Hunsaker for lifeguard training and operations consulting. In 2018, two lifeguard training classes were conducted in Skopje, Macedonia; one in Miami, FL; two in Manila, Philippines; and one in Shanghai, China. Additionally, consulting visits to assist with the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures were conducted in Trieste, Greece, and visits to assess lifeguard performance on multiple ships have been conducted in Miami, FL.
Safety Officers onboard Norwegian Cruise Line vessels are also required to complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard Management online course, for which Counsilman-Hunsaker acts as Norwegian Cruise Line’s liaison to American Red Cross to facilitate the training internationally.
2019
In 2019 Counsilman-Hunsaker provided SOP Reviews, Operations Reviews and Lifeguard Program consultations for the Norwegian Breakaway and the Norwegian Sun. Both ships had challenges with providing lifeguards for the number of amenities on the ships and wanted a review of lifeguard operations. Counsilman-Hunsaker made training and staffing recommendations as well as equipment recommendations for the lifeguard programs. Counsilman-Hunsaker also provided a safety officer training and Aquatic Examiner Service for the Norwegian Encore.
2020
While in 2020, the global pandemic shut down most cruise line operations around the world, Counsilman-Hunsaker continued to provide Lifeguard Management certifications to Safety Officers within the Norwegian Cruise line Fleet.
