Plano Aquatic Center – AuditPlano, TX
The City of Plano commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker and Brinkley Sargent Architects to provide a swimming pool audit for the indoor pool and associated systems, and the outdoor spray ground at the Plano Aquatic Center. The audit included a visual inspection of the current condition of the pool including pool finishes, deck areas, gutter and filtration systems, pool water heating equipment, chemical feed and control systems, and piping and recirculation systems. The audit also identified design or equipment deficiencies. Team members made determinations about the facility’s ability to meet ADA requirements, health standards, and general safety regulations. The final report detailed the existing condition of the pool and its equipment including life expectancies. Recommendations were made for short-term and long-term repairs or replacements which included cost estimates.
Aquatic Design and Engineering
After a thorough investigation of the existing facility and review with city staff, it was determined that repairing the existing pool would not serve as a cost effective method to achieve the desired programming goals for the facility. The city chose to renovate the existing center by making major improvements to the locker rooms, family changing rooms, entrance and lobby areas, party room, classrooms, lighting and HVAC systems. In addition, the indoor swimming pool was completely replaced with new 5,400 multi-purpose pool as well as a new 1,500 sq. ft. outdoor spray ground.
