In October 2012, Purdue University dedicated the five-level France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center, named for the university’s president who served from 2007 to 2012.
The newly renovated 338,000 sq. ft. recreation center was designed with three glass additions which open up the existing building creating a light-filled atrium. New additions include an aquatic center, a climbing wall, a running track, racquetball courts, and five gyms used for various sports such as hockey, soccer, badminton, volleyball and basketball.
Features of the aquatic center include:
3,600 sq. ft. Recreational Pool
- Water basketball and volleyball
- Three fitness lap lanes
- Open play area
- Hydrotherapy bench
- 4 ft. 6 in. maximum depth
- 250 sq. ft. whirlpool spa with hydrotherapy bench
The Recreational Sports Center is pursuing the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for energy efficient design.
