Southeast Missouri State University commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker in association with Hastings & Chivetta Architects to design a new Student Aquatic Center next to the existing Student Recreation Center. The center boasts unique aquatic amenities that no other campus recreation aquatic center has to offer.

The aquatic complex embodies the school and community’s needs and objectives by combining leisure areas and fitness/competitive swimming program spaces. The aquatic center includes:

  • 2,900 sq. ft. leisure pool
  • 40 ft. wide by 14 ft. high bouldering wall with four waterfalls, allowing users the thrill of climbing and falling into the seven-foot-deep leisure pool
  • Indoor zip line spanning the leisure pool with capacity to send a user along the wire for 20 to 25 yards
  • 3,900 sq. ft. 25-yard lap pool with six lanes
  • 196 sq. ft. 12 person whirlpool spa
  • Artificial palm trees and tropical vegetation
  • Aquatic multi-purpose room
  • Lifeguard and professional staff offices
  • Chemical and control systems with 21st-century aquatic technology
