Counsilman-Hunsaker was commissioned to provide swimming pool audits for three aquatic centers: Legion Pool, the Gabrielsen Natatorium Pools; and the outdoor pool at the Health and Science Campus. The purpose of the site visits were to evaluate the existing conditions of each pool, its equipment and amenities including life expectancies and recommended short-term and long-term repairs or replacements, along with cost estimates. The mechanical systems were also identified in the audit, as well as recommendations to bring the facilities up to current ADA requirements and state health code standards. Audited facilities include:
Gabrielsen Natatorium located within the Ramsey Center at the University of Georgia: This facility was originally designed in the early 1990s by Counsilman-Hunsaker, and is still viewed as one of the premier competition facilities of its time. Four separate bodies of water were audited: a 50-meter competition pool, a dive pool, a spa, and a recreation lap pool.
Legion Pool located on the University of Georgia campus: The outdoor 50-meter pool was originally opened in 1936 as an American Legion outpost, was purchased by the City of Athens in the 1960s, and then by the University of Georgia in the 1970s.
Outdoor pool located on the Georgia Health Sciences campus: The outdoor lap pool and tot pool were originally constructed in the 1950s. The facility was purchased by the university approximately two years ago, and the pools have not been in operation since.
