Aquatic Management Program

Counsilman-Hunsaker is proud to offer a complete, robust, risk management program, utilizing curriculum and benchmarks developed by the American Red Cross.

Training

Sometimes an outside perspective can bring new life to your training program. Counsilman-Hunsaker’s operations team can provide staff training, in-services and lifeguard orientation, covering customer service, rule enforcement, standard operating procedures, emergency medical procedures and attraction operations.

It is our goal for facilities to be positioned for success both in sustainability and in fiscal responsibility through in-house training capabilities, and we excel in preparing our clients with the ability to train instructors within their own organization. Our documented training excellence surpasses other training organizations and is recognized through our strategic partnership with the American Red Cross and by our clients participating in our training, operations, and management programs. Trainings include custom classes for lifeguard certification, lifeguard instructor certification, certified pool operator instruction, and a variety of custom management courses.

Counsilman-Hunsaker utilizes the protocols and methodologies of the American Red Cross Aquatic Examiner Service and Lifeguarding program, coupled with Counsilman-Hunsaker’s innovative consulting, design, operations, and programming expertise in the aquatic industry.

Aquatic Examiner Services (AES) Client Facility Program is designed to:

In addition to providing instant access to observational and technical auditing reports and corresponding video and images, our online program also generates a facility-specific score based in part on the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) and lifeguarding benchmarks.

As a VIP service, Counsilman-Hunsaker will serve as your liaison to the American Red Cross for lifeguard and instructor certification. This includes submission of course records and certification tracking for all lifeguards and instructors.

Documentation

With this information management software package, including required forms and recommended evaluations, you will be able to easily assess you compliance with state health codes and MAHC.

Incident Support

A successful facility acts proactively to prevent mishaps, but also plans for the unexpected. If an incident results in legal proceedings, Counsilman-Hunsaker will provide litigation support and if needed, serve as an expert witness. In addition, a Counsilman-Hunsaker consultant will conduct a site visit for accident investigation and documentation.

Standard Operating Procedures analysis.

Counsilman-Hunsaker will perform an evaluation of your current Standard Operating Procedures and make MAHC-compliant recommendations accordingly.

Facility inventory analysis.

Optimizing your customers’ experience means updating your facility and offerings to continuously meet their needs. During this analysis, Counsilman-Hunsaker will use inventory data to identify deficiencies, constraints and opportunities for improving your program development and maintenance.

Market and aquatics programming analysis.

Identify more opportunities for gaining a competitive edge by utilizing these CHAMP services. Counsilman-Hunsaker will conduct a preliminary market analysis, and then a full-market analysis recommending improvements to program elements and usability purposes based on demographic, social and economic trends. A consultant will also analyze current program offerings compared to the competition, make supplier recommendations and identify opportunities for partnerships and alternative service delivery.

Staffing and expenses analysis.

As you steer your facility toward growth, it’s imperative to make sure you have the resources required for that growth. This analysis will supply recommendations for staffing full-time and part-time positions based on existing staffing levels and wages compared to industry averages. It will also include a review of your annual budget by category.

Monthly reviews and recommendations.

Counsilman-Hunsaker will review facility records and reports for attendance, revenue, expenses, water chemistry and training. Then, using our years of experience in aquatic facility design and operations, we will make recommendations for improvements that have proved successful.

Customized SOP manual creation.

This service will equip you with code-compliant and MAHC-compliant standard operation procedures for all day-to-day operations. The manual will include:

  • Pool and Attraction Rules and Regulations
  •  Zones of Coverage and Rotations
  • Staff Manual
  • Emergency Action Plans (including Medical & Non-Medical)
  • Documentation and Reporting Procedures
  • In-Service Training and Documentation
  • OSHA-Hazard Communication Standards (including Bloodborne Pathogens Control Plan)

Additionally, the owner will receive a staffing plan designating lifeguard stations and zones based on peak facility use times, as well as lifeguard performance auditing procedures and tools to evaluate lifeguard vigilance, zone coverage and response times.

Business plan and budget development.

Successful management of a facility means making adjustments that will enable you to better serve your community. Counsilman-Hunsaker will work with owners to develop goals, objectives and a business plan, which will be reviewed and updated annually. The business plan will include a revenue plan, comprised of a market competition analysis, attendance, fee structure and programming revenue, as well as an operating expense budget.

Aquatic programming recommendations.

Aquatic programming is your biggest opportunity to build a positive connection with your clients. Using your business plan, Counsilman-Hunsaker will make recommendations for format, pricing and programming that best serve your target market. The Aquatics Director will receive advice about the implementation, operations and evaluation of all aquatic programs. Additionally, this service equips a facility with the training and tools needed to offer the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety instruction program (Learn-to-Swim).

Pool systems and mechanical maintenance support.

Proper mechanical maintenance helps ensure a safe and positive user experience as well as efficient facility operations. Counsilman-Hunsaker will provide a manual outlining recommended operating procedures for water quality and pump room maintenance based on best practices and MAHC guidelines. Additionally, employees responsible for these operations will receive an annual training class. This class will cover control practices, water testing and dosing, pool cleaning and maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

Branding and marketing.

Build stronger connections with clients wherever they are throughout the day and strengthen your brand’s image to help achieve your overall goals. We will work with owners to identify a marketing strategy, encompassing a media plan and marketing budget that will target those goals. Then we will implement that plan from start to assessment — evaluating and negotiating contracts, creating messaging, working with design professionals and analyzing return on investment.
